APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING
The apprenticeship program and it’s content is under the direction of the Province of New Brunswick Apprenticeship and Occupational Branch. The program delivery is administered by the New Brunswick Roofing Contractors Association under the umbrella of the New Brunswick Community College.
The program consists of 3 blocks, each running 6 weeks, and 5400 hours of employment in the trade. Once an appretice is sponsored by a contractor the contractor agrees to employee the apprentice.
Block 1: 6 weeks; upon completion, the apprentice is required to pass the Block 1 exam to enter Block 2
Block 2: 6 weeks; upon completion, the apprentice is required to pass the Block 2 exam to enter Block 3
Block 3: 6 weeks; upon completion and passing the Block 3,exam, the apprentice is required to write the interprovincial exam to become a Red Seal Roofer.
All blocks are carried out at the Roofing Training Centre 1010 Fairville Blvd., Saint John, N.B. E2M 5T5.
REGISTER AS AN APPRENTICE
To register as an apprentice you have to be employed by a roofing contractor. That contractor will sponsor you and register you with Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Branch of the Government. An Apprenticeship Counsellor will interview you and go through the program with the apprentices. Financial assistance will be explained to the apprentices including any grants that are available.
